When we set out to create Vapoura, it was important that our rum was created, distilled and bottled on English soil. Not only does it get us as close to the making of our liquid as possible, but it also allows us to tap into the best of English craft.
That said, there’s no craft on an unsustainable planet. That’s why we’re on a journey to be 99% reliant on renewable energy to produce our rum by September 2024.
This journey requires transparency – after all, knowing everything about a spirit and how it was made was what led us to start Vapoura in the first place. So as much as there’s work yet to be done, we’re immensely proud of the steps that we’ve taken so far. Steps that were only possible by being Made in England.
One way we’ve already dramatically reduced our carbon footprint is through our energy usage. This is thanks to our distillery’s own solar farm, with additional energy harnessed from the burning of our waste alcohol (also known as biomass).
Our small batch distillation process has a part to play too. Producing Vapoura this way means we don’t require large amounts of electricity, water or raw materials. Not only is there very little waste involved, but the waste we do produce is reused as compost and fertiliser. Small batch means smaller footprint.
As the world of Vapoura continues to grow, we’re committed to our target goal, continuing to hold ourselves accountable along the way.
